HIROSHIGE-53 STATIONS OF THE TOKAIDO: The Ronin Gallery is pleased to present an exhibition of the complete series The 53 Stations of the Tokaido . This particular series was done in 1848 in the chuban format. Hiroshige immortalized the Tokaido, the coastal road that connected the Imperial capital of Kyoto with the Shogun’s capital in Edo and the prints capture the beauty, mystery and adventure of travel along this famed road. It is considered the most popular landscape subject in ukiyo-e.
