Ronin Gallery is pleased to present 17 prints from the series The Great Fish of Japan by Bakufu Ohno. An island country, Japan’s art heritage is deeply rooted in an appreciation of the aquatic life. All of the prints are in superb condition; many embellished with mica, and represent the highest level of technical workmanship and design.
BAKUFU OHNO (aka ONO) (1888-1976) was born in Tokyo. A woodblock print designer, he moved to the Kyoto area after the great Tokyo earthquake of 1923. He was a member of many prestigious art organizations including the Hyogo Prefecture Academy of Arts where he was an honorary member. Originally an oil painter he also exhibited his paintings at Teiten in 1929. His most well known and prized series was The Great Fish of Japan printed between 1938 and 1953.
