The Art of Words. Calligraphy by Gakyo
Ronin Gallery is pleased to present The Art of Words, 15 calligraphic paintings by Gakyo. The art of Japanese Calligraphy or Shodo, which means the way of writing, combines the beauty of sumi ink painting and the written word. It is an ancient as well as contemporary art, simple yet complex, functional yet firmly rooted in the spiritual world of Zen Buddhism. A calligraphic brush stroke is a work of abstract beauty, continuity and rhythm. Gakyo is the art name of Kiyoko Nakamura. Born in Kyoto she has practiced the art of sumi-e calligraphy for over 20 years. She is a member of Seihitsu-kai, an honorary international calligraphy society and her works are collected worldwide. Today she resides in New York City.
